The set up
Last year we turned Dawn of a New Day into an LLC. We were really ready to take it to the next level, as my guidance was telling me. We set up QuickBooks and got a few credit cards to make it easy to grow while bootstrapping ourselves.

The surprise
One of those credit cards was an Advanta card. After having this card for some time, and never missing a payment or being late, Advanta decided to increase the rate on the card to almost 30%. This was not even mentioned as a possibility when I applied for the card. When I called to complain and ask for a lower rate I was told it was the only rate available, even when I asked to speak to the person’s manager and was denied my request.

Why do I need to know?
So why am I telling you? Well, since Advanta has closed all their small business credit cards and isn’t offering them anymore it wouldn’t help anyone to warn them about Advanta’s anti-consumer practices but we can use it as an example of how to live from our integrity in our own businesses and lives.

Birds of a feather
Is this story an example of the consciousness of the employees of Advanta and the consciousness of the company in general? I would have to come to the conclusion: yes.

Feeling integrity
Being in integrity in our own lives and in our businesses can be seen on the outside, especially with social media, and it’s felt from all sides. You feel it as the business owner. You feel it as an employee. You feel it as a customer. You feel it as a potential customer.

Live from integrity and change the world
If everyone lived from their integrity, only engaging in business practices they believe in, and only working for companies that operated from their integrity, the world and global consciousness of business would shift quickly and dramatically.

One company that IS in its integrity
As an example of a company that DOES live from its integrity, I can point to Voveo, a company I’ve spoken with (5 hours with one of the owners) and investigated before making this statement. They are a local marketing group which uses a very intelligent and effective approach to addressing all aspects of the marketing game.

Be in integrity in all your interactions and business dealings and you’ll sleep well at night.
